STANLEY VISITS GREAT AMERICAN CLEAN UP THANK YOU PARTY & CAR SHOW ... The Scorpions held their 2nd Annual Tip A Scorpion Night on December 11th at Boston's the Gourmet Pizza. The event benefitted Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central New Mexico. On this night the Scorpions set aside their hockey uniforms for a different type of outfit. Players served as waiters and hosts from 6-9 pm. All "tips" the Scorpions received while serving patrons was donated to BBBSCNM. In addition, Boston's the Gourmet Pizza donated 10% of all proceeds during these three hours.
... VISIT TO HAYNES COMMUNITY CENTER Head Coach Randy Murphy and Stanley visited Haynes Community Center in Rio Rancho in March. Kids had the a question and answer session with Coach Murphy and had a chance to learn more about hockey and get autographs. ... VISIT TO ENCHANTED HILLS ELEMENTARY Player Andrew Smale and Stanley visited fifteen classrooms at Enchanted Hills Elementary in Rio Rancho during the students week of testing. The visit was to give a message of encouragement to the students to continue to work hard on their upcoming tests. Students took photos with the duo and got high fives from Stanley.
... CHICK-FIL-A FAMILY NIGHT The Scorpions joined their friends at Chick-Fil-A for their Tuesday Family Night. Customers had a chance to meet Stanley the Scorpions, Mitch Stephens, Ross McCain, Andrew Martin and Ray Ortiz. Players signed autographs and took picures with fans.

SCORPIONS CELEBRITY READERS AT Scorpions players Chris Robertson, Dylan Row, Craig MacDonald and Erik Johnson spent time reading to the students and signing autographs at the annual Arroyo del Oso Elementary Literacy Night on Thursday, February 28. Stanley also made a special appearance signing autographs and taking pictures with the students.
... INTERVIEW WITH SIERRA VISTA ELEMENTARY NEWSPAPER CLUB Player Craig MacDonald visited the Newspaper Club at Sierra Vista Elementary home of the Scorpions. MacDonald was interviewed by the students for The Stinging Scorpions monthly newsletter. Students spent the time learning about MacDonald, hockey and had a chance to get autographs and photos.
EDUCATION STARS The Scorpions partnered with the Rio Rancho Chamber of Commerce Education Stars. Each month the Scorpions will make a special presentation to a teacher or school staff that has shown dedication and excellence at Puesta del Sol Elementary. The October presentation was made by Scorpions goalie Andrew Martin.
... The Scorpions partnered with the Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity to build a Scorpions Playhouse. One lucky fan will win the playhouse on December 15th during a special holiday edition of Chuck-A-Puck. The Scorpions themed playhouse is currently on display in Rio Rancho at the Bank of Albuquerque at 3901 Southern Blvd. The house was built by Habitat for Humanity staff and volunteers, Scorpions staff, players, and coaches and the Stingerz. This unique playhouse is valued at over $7,000. Materials to build the house were donated by RAKS, Glass-Rite, and Champion Truss.
... SCORPIONS HOCKEY CLINIC AT BOYS & GIRLS CLUB Scorpions players and coaches headed over to the Boys & Girls Club in Rio Rancho on Wednesday, November 7th to hold a special hockey clinic. About 30 kids were present to learn basic hockey skills from the Scorpions, including scoring, defense and puck handling. Scorpions Dominic Osman, Jay Holladay, David Simoes, and Mitch Stephens lent their expertise as well as Head Coach Randy Murphy and Assistant Coach Eric Soltys. Stanley also made a special appearance. All the kids received autographs and Scorpions watches after the clinic.
... STANLEY VISITS UNM CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL Stanley and Scorpions staff made a visit to the new UNM Children's Hospital on Friday, July 27th. We had an opportunity to meet some great kids and their families. Stanley enjoyed playing in the new Childlife Playroom area and handing out Scorpions pucks and books to the children. ... NM NATIONAL GUARD YOUTH ADVENTURE On July 14th, Stanley and Scorpions staff joined the New Mexico National Guard for their Youth Adventure 2007. This event provided an opportunity for guard youth to meet and most importantly gain a better understanding of the role their parents or other family members play in the guard. CORRALES 4TH OF JULY PARADE & FAMILY FUN DAY Stanley and Scorpions staff joined the community of Corrales for their 4th of July Parade & Family Fun Day at La Entrada Park. Festivities included a parade down main street followed by live music, food, face painting, animals, and vendors from the community gathering at La Entrada Park. Stanley made many new friends, posed for photos & played with the kids. ... ... 2ND ANNUAL CASA BOWL-A-THON The 2nd Annual CASA Bowl-A-Thon was held on Saturday, June 30 at Ten Pins-And-More in Rio Rancho. Over 23 teams participated to help raise money for Sandoval County CASA, Inc. Stanley and Scorpions staff attended the event. Stanley had an opportunity to take photos, sign autographs and give a few bowling lessons.
... AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY On Friday, June 22 Stanley and Scorpions staff attended the American Cancer Society Relay for Life event at Rio Rancho High School athletic track and field. It was a fun-filled overnight event that brought together those who have been touched by cancer in our community. The Scorpions were happy to be a part of this event and help support the mission of the American Cancer Society to save lives, help those who have been touched by cancer, and empower indivduals to fight back.

NATIONAL HUNGER AWARENESS DAY & Stanley the Scorpion, Head Coach Ray Edwards, Assistant Coach Randy Murphy, and Director of Broadcasting Adam Minnick joined Roadrunner Food Bank on June 5th for their National Hunger Awareness Day and "Great Race of the Mascots". The event benefitted the Senior Helpings program which provides food boxes to medically frail, low-income seniors. The event was kicked off with the "Great Race of the Mascots" Food Boxing Olympics featuring Stanley and Coach Edwards competing with six other area mascots in a five minute food boxing race. The Scorpions competed with 35 other teams for the gold, silver and bronze "Can" Awards. Teams had ten minutes to build as many Senior Helpings Boxes possible. ... SCORPIONS DONATE FURNITURE TO CHARITY On Wednesday, May 30, 2007 the Scorpions hockey team donated furniture previously used by Scorpions players to Family-To-Family Home Furnishings. Items included living/bedroom furniture, chairs, dinette sets, and much more. Family-To-Family Home Furnishings will coordinate the distribution of the donated funiture to families in need.
